Knock, Knock

I think with any life full of little boys, Knock Knock jokes are a given.  Mine is no exception.  Not a car ride goes by without at least one of my boys telling me a Knock Knock joke, and I am so not exaggerating.  Their speciality is to make their own.  And I feel it is my duty as their mother, the one who holds out all hope for them and loves them with every fiber of my being, to cackle right along with them, funny or not.  Here's my current favorite:

Boy 3:  Mommy!  Knock knock!
Me:  Who's there?
Boy 3:  No one.
Me:  No one who?
Boy 3:  Mommy!  You're not supposed to say anything because no one's there!

So it stands to reason that I craft keyhole jewelry, right?  My Mourning Garden Gate Necklace has been a staple in my jewelry line for a couple of years.  But now I'm onto my favorite piece of jewelry:  the bracelet.  Actually I don't have a favorite piece of jewelry, I love all jewelry.  But right now it's the bracelet.  More specifically the keyhole bracelet: 



This is my Entrance Brass Demi Cuff Bracelet made from an aged solid brass escutcheon and vintage chain, a handmade tassel, aged rhinestone, a large new rhinesone button, and a raw brass vintage cross charm. When the boys get home from school today I am going to show them how their "humor" has inspired me.  They will be soooo very excited.  And I suspect Knock Knock jokes will abound this evening.

Art on the Levee

In Small Spectacles will be a featured artist at the "Newport on the Levee Arts Fest" sponsored by Art on the Levee.  The dates are Saturday, April 30th from 11:00-8:00 and Sunday, May 1st from 12:00-6:00.  As far as weather goes, it should be a beautiful weekend to showcase area artists and their work since it will be late in the Spring and the weather is usually agreeable this time of the year.  It truly couldn't be a finer venue as there are several restaurants, Barnes and Noble, The Newport Aquarium, street performers, and IMAX and regular movie theaters on site.  Make a day of it!

I have made a boatload of new pieces since my last in-person show, and will continue to right up until the Arts Fest date.  There will also be pieces not listed on my Etsy site.

Blog Part Deux

I have been told by several people that I need to start a blog linked to my jewelry, In Small Spectacles.  At shows, people asked me if I had a blog and the more I said "no," the more I realized that perhaps I needed to add that to the administrative end of the jewelry. 

I always thought of Facebook as a shorthand version of a blog, but it appears a website, Facebook, AND a blog are all necessary in today's craft/art market.  It does make sense as my all-time favorite publication "Where Women Create", which features artists' work spaces, list the artists' Etsy/web pages AND their blogs.  There are also loads of blog panel discussions in the Creative Connection event this Fall so duh, blogging is essential, right?  I already have the website here and the Facebook page here. 

I think this will be a good thing, though;  it will give me a forum to share other artists' work that I appreciate.  It will allow me to take pictures of the pieces I make in their various stages.  All too often I get into a creative "zone" and am oblivious to my surroundings.  Any documentation will force me to come up for air and make sure my house isn't on fire and my boys are still alive.  As I tell my husband, just give me old stuff, music, and jewelry findings all at the same time and I am a happy camper, which says a lot since I'd rather give birth than camp.  

My new mantra may be "I make, therefore I blog."
